Holly Hunter, an American film and actress, is known for her acclaimed performances in films such as Broadcast News The Firm The Piano The Incredibles. The film Piano has won several awards for her and an Oscar. The well-known actress began her career as an actor on the stage with an array of Broadway as well as Off-Broadway productions. Since her childhood she's been enthusiastic about acting. She was Helen Keller as a fifth-grade student in a school production. The actress was deaf in one ear after suffering from mumps but did not let this disability dampen her determination to become an actress. When she was a teenager, she was a drama student in college, and then moved to New York City from Pittsburgh so that she could follow her dreams. Hunter was able to make her Broadway debut when she had a chance meeting in the company of Beth Henley, a playwright. Both of them collaborated on Broadway Crimes of the Heart. In the years following her move to Los Angeles she tried to be a film actor and eventually landed a supporting role as a character Swing Shift. In the last three decades, she has appeared on numerous TV shows and films. Holly Hunter received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and is also the recipient of The Women in Film Lucy Award.
